Summer Is Approaching
Two more months till Summer!!
Dogs love exploring the sights, sounds and smells of our beautiful country. Summer is the best time to make memories with your furry friends and let them enjoy the sun with you. There are plenty of ways you can incorporate your dogs in fun summer activities and we have a guide that will inspire you.
Dog Friendly Cafés
Get up bright and early for your caffeine fix while your pooch laps from the water bowls. We have a few favourite locals that are fit for your dogs.
First up we have Takapuna Beach Café. The classic beach + café combo is a dream for your dogs. With plenty of outdoor seating, this place is a match made in heaven. After you’ve had a bite to eat, take your dog along the beach for a walk.
Cornwall Park Café is another favourite, with hundreds of dogs running around the hills, you can make a quick stop here and you may make some new furry friends. Ampersand Eatery located in the Orakei Bay Village is a space for your doggy. Sit back and relax with your coffee and your little friend by your side. You can also walk along the Orakei Basin track afterwards for a brilliant morning ritual.
Outdoor Activities
Dogs make the best companion for hikes. Have a fun day scouting new tracks or visiting your favourite ones. Keep your dog hydrated and leashed up during your hike and let your dog explore wonders.
The beach is a dog’s haven! Come prepared with some toys, water and doggy bags. The beach is the perfect place to wind down, soak in the sun and enjoy splashing around in the water.
The La Cigale French Markets is another fun place for a stroll with your four-legged friend. Wake up nice and early on the weekend and visit ‘Miss Maggies’ for some delicious dog biscuits.
Pool Dates
Pool dates are a fun summer activity and you can invite all your dogs to your backyard for a puppy party. Teach them new tricks and have a splash around in a collapsible doggie pool. Swimming is both fun and a form of exercise to keep your dog fit.
Try out our Snuffle Balls for a doggie challenge. Hide hidden treats and get your dog’s competing for the top prize. Our Snuffle Balls are a boredom busting play activity and come in a wide range of colours.
Make Summer Doggy Treats
Try to make a two-ingredient frozen banana and peanut butter treat! This will leave your furry friend feeling happy and healthy. All you’ll need to do is:
- Freeze your bananas
- Put the bananas in a food processor and mix till thick. Incorporate peanut butter into it and mix well until nice and smooth like puppy ice cream
How easy is that? This keeps your dog cool all summer long and their love for peanut butter can be satisfied.
You can freeze almost any fruit for a dog treat– apple, watermelon, berries and mix it with some yoghurt for a yummy pup-sicle. Make it savoury by freezing chicken broth in ice cube trays.
Bond with Your Pets this Summer
There are so many activities you can do to bond with your furry friends, especially during the summer times. Whether it’s going for a hike, café or beach, we know that spending special time with them helps build trust and strengthen your relationship.
